The Year In Review: PCNNs List of Most Notable Films

Guardians of the Galaxy: One of the most fun and action-packed movies released this year is Guardians of the Galaxy. This Sci-fi adaptation of the Marvel comic series of the same name features an unlikely team of intergalactic super heroes. Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Vin Diesel, and Bradley Cooper all deliver memorable performances. Along with out-of-this world special effects and an incredibly nostalgic soundtrack, this is one movie you can’t miss!

 

The Lego Movie: This movie is the first theatrical Lego movie ever made, and it makes you wonder why it wasn’t made sooner. This is a fantastic adventure movie about an ordinary Lego minifigure who is mistaken as being the key to saving the world. He and a band of heroes embark on an epic quest to stop an villainous tyrant, a quest for which none of them are quite prepared.

 

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay: The first part of the finale to the popular Hunger Games series. This installment finds the main character Katniss Everdeen serving as a symbol of rebellion after destroying the wicked Hunger Games. This is another great addition to the series, full of thrills and great performances all-around.

 

Interstellar: One of the highest-grossing films of 2014, Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar is a fantastic foray into the deepest depths of space with visuals and a story that will stay with you long after you watch it. With a stellar cast, incredible visuals, and an amazing soundtrack, this is one movie you can’t miss out on.

 

Big Hero 6: This comedy-adventure from Disney does not disappoint. Big Hero 6 is another fun-filled animated movie from Disney about how a boy (along with his robot companion) and his friends decided to transform themselves into hi-tech heroes in order to solve a mystery happening in their town.

 

The Fault in Our Stars: If you’re looking for a tearjerker, you’ve found it with, The Fault in Our Stars. This film tells the story of how love changed the life of a teenage girl dealing with lung cancer. Heart-wrenching performances are given by Shailene Woodley, and Ansel Elgort, who plays her love interest.

 

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes: Acclaimed sequel to 2011’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes, this installment finds a group of genetically evolved apes and and band of apes caught in a quarrel that will determine who is the dominant species on Earth. This summer blockbuster received rave reviews and gives the first film a run for it’s money.

 

The Theory of Everything: The Theory of Everything is a beautiful biographical film based on the relationship between prestigious cosmologist and physicist Stephen Hawking, and his first wife Jane Wilde. This period piece is emotional and captivating, it is reported that Mr. Hawking himself had a tear wiped from his face after viewing this movie.

 

The Maze Runner – This action-packed picture tells the story of a group of teenagers who are trapped within a giant labyrinth with no memory of what happened prior to their arrival. They venture out into an endlessly changing maze filled with blood-thirsty monsters in order to find out why they have been put there. The Maze Runner is well-acted and one of the better action-adventure movies released this year.
