PCNN goes Into The Woods
Every year, Panther Creek performs a spring musical that is carefully chosen and deliberated on by the theater arts teacher here at PC, Mr. Cox. This year he has chosen the musical Into The Woods, by Stephen Sondheim. Getting to do the play this year took a lot of hard work and dedication, but with persistence Mr. Cox was able to get the rights to perform the musical here at Panther Creek. The musical was performed Thursday April 16th through Saturday April 18th. The cast and crew did an amazing job putting it all together, it was overall a huge success.
Panther Creek’s rendition of the musical played off a lot of the original aspects of the musical but also added in a few new fairy tale characters. Jack’s cow, “Milky White”, was a white cow on wheels (which was walked around by an actress in all white), acted out the cows emotions through her facial expressions and communicated through sound. This was a really quirky way of giving life to a life size prop. They also did this with the birds; they had two actors dressed in all black come on stage with birds on their arms as if they were flapping and flying through the air on their own.
PCNN took the time to interview a few people who were involved in the musicals production, they all had a lot to say about their own individual experiences and they all had a lot of fun working on the musical.
Everyone PCNN interviewed had to overcome many obstacles, one of the biggest for many seemed to be the huge time commitment. (11) Nate Cryan, said that “the biggest obstacle has been balancing the show and school, because as it’s junior year, AP U.S. History and AP English have not been working out quite so well together”.
All in all, the cast had a lot to say about their personal experiences and PCNN was able to get a little bit of insight into the world of theatre.
