Cheer Nationals Recap
In the month of February, our cheer team competed at the Cheer Nationals! They competed in Orland, Florida for their biggest competition of the year. Not only did they win in their division, but they placed 3rd overall in the nation! PCNN did a deep dive into their time at the competition and their fun outings while being in Orlando!
PCNN asked the cheerleaders what their favorite moment was from the cheer nationals. Four cheerleaders said that winning nationals was definitely their highlight. Others said that the company of their teammates was their favorite part! They were able to compete with each other, go on a fun road trip from Cary to Orland together, and even visit Universal as a team!
During their time at nationals, another sporting event was happening: the Super Bowl! In their hotel lobby, the Super Bowl was playing on a large screen for the whole hotel and team to watch. During halftime, the entire team went into one room and watched the Rihanna show having a great time! One cheerleader said this was the highlight of her whole time at nationals.
This was the last competition of the season and the last school competition for our five seniors. Looking back on the season, we asked the team what their favorite thing is about cheer and this season overall. One cheerleader said, “Having a sense of community within my team” was her favorite part. Another cheerleader says, “Bonding with people that have similar interests and working as a team” was her highlight. Other cheerleaders said that skill-building such, as trying new stunts and learning a new position, is their favorite part!
Overall, we are so proud of our cheer team for representing PCHS with a big win on a national stage! In the week leading up to the competition, they practiced every day and cheered at the basketball game. Their hard work paid off, and they won Nationals – go Cats!
