The Ambitions, Aspirations, and Future Endeavors of Panther Creek Catamounts
We all know that having accomplishments and goals are a part of living a successful and fulfilling life. Of course, that usually has to do with academic, athletic, and social goals. However, what about experiences a person hopes to have or accomplish before they die? What areas do those fall under? Yes, I am talking about a bucket list. Although they may not be written down, we all have them in the back of our minds. These goals could range from skydiving, to bungee jumping, or even climbing Mt. Everest. We had PCNN reporters find students with interesting and original bucket list ideas.
We asked junior McKenzie Thorley what was on her bucket list and she said, “I want to go to Spain and jump into a fountain, preferably after we won a soccer game.” When we asked her why, she said, “Soccer is a big deal in Spain, so after they win, the people would be really excited about it, so I won’t look crazy if I jumped into a fountain.” Even though her answer makes her seem like an unreserved person, she seemed a bit doubtful about accomplishing this goal. “I have no idea when, maybe when I’m too old to actually jump in the fountain, but that’s most likely when I’ll be able to afford the trip.”
Junior Aolani Small also had a very interesting item on her bucket list. “I want to go to Italy and learn how to make pizza.” Aolani wasn’t the only one to have a bucket list idea that had to do with traveling. Senior Kyle Pulsipher said that his number one goal was to take a nap in every country in the world.
Sophomore Chase Terry had a very meticulous idea on his bucket list. “I want to get into a police chase, then skip town and go to Alaska, build an igloo and live in it for a week,” he said. When we asked why, he said, “Well, I always imagined that it would be really thrilling to be in a police chase, but I don’t plan on going to jail in my lifetime, and igloos are pretty low-key so I think that it would be safe enough for me to hide in there for a couple of weeks.”
Instead of looking at bucket list ideas as a borderline death wish, it may be interesting to to see it as a way to figure out a person’s personality, what values they hold, and even what kind of life they want to live. For example, Thorley’s goal jump into a fountain in Spain after winning a soccer game can lead one to assume that she’s an outgoing person who loves soccer. One could also make the obvious statement that Aolani loves pizza; she loves it so much that she wants to go to its country of origin and learn how to make it. The assumption can also be made that Pulsipher really values sleep, and instead of traveling the world, he want to sleep all over the world. From Terry’s thoroughly planned goal, we can infer that he wishes to live an exciting and thrilling life, even if that means a lifetime of hiding from the police.
