Two cents for Freshmen
High school can be hit or miss; you either like it or not. It is a big step-up from middle school, so to some freshmen, high school can be scary; new friends, new teachers, bigger school and more homework. PCNN reporters asked the sophomores and upperclassmen for some tips, advice, and even some of their regrets they had throughout high school.
Despite just being a freshman, sophomores have some great advice for the newbies at Panther Creek. Sophomore, Chris Gallagher said one of his biggest regrets was not studying for his honors classes; “failing isn’t cool; put in hard work to see great results.”
Upperclassmen will often find themselves looking back to when they were underclassmen and wish they could guide themselves to have a perfect high school experience. Many seniors wish they had developed stronger relationships with teachers just in case a college requires a recommendation, they would have a teacher to go to. Not only for recommendations but it’s always good to be friends with your teachers, that way the class isn’t miserable for you.
Juniors, who are in one of the most stressful years of their high school careers, often wish they kicked the habit of procrastination. Many wish they could rewind to when they were registering for classes prior to the school year, and balanced their schedules better to reduce the amount of work and stress.
A majority of upperclassmen regret how much they used to worry about what their peers thought of them. Junior Zoe Gabrielson, recommends that the freshman begin taking advantage of all the extracurricular activities Panther Creek has to offer. This being said, many of them said the wish they joined more clubs and were more active in the school activities.
Despite the hard work and late nights filled with studying and homework; high school can be fun. The good thing is: you’re not alone, everyone in high school feels the pressure, competitiveness, and stress. Don’t ever feel like this is a task to be done on your own. Reach out to everyone, get out of your social comfort zone and try new things. Make high school a great four years.
