Is Football the Only Popular Sport at PC?

This year we have seen a rise in attendance at previously empty students sections at many different sporting events. This can be due to either the increased advertisement or awareness of those games or the success of those particular sports this year. Typically the main two sports that you would find the most students at would be Football in the fall and Basketball in the winter. A few reasons for football being a big hit include that it’s always on friday nights, the atmosphere at football games and its widespread popularity at Panther Creek. Basketball is harder to figure out, though for some reason it has always been an extremely popular sporting event to attend for fans.

Though this year things have been different, due to the success of the two previously named sports, soccer and volleyball, the rise in attendance at those games has been dramatic and obvious. Men’s soccer making it to the previously unprecedented 3rd round of playoffs and numerous high-intensity games against our rival- Green Hope brought people in to watch the formerly unattended sport. Volleyball was extremely impressive this year as well and it shows. The girls made it all the way to the State Championship in a historic run that included several impressive home games. Each one bringing more and more fans to watch. The State Championship itself, a tough loss to Green Hope, was played at NC State’s PNC Arena with the Panther Creek students really showing a lot school spirit to make the trek and supporting our team.

As we enter into another successful season for the Men’s Basketball team we see another sport bring a lot of students in after hours to support their school. The team is lead by 4 year varsity player Justin McKoy and has brought a lot of students to their games as they look to continue on their success this season.
