At Panther Creek, we have outstanding Fine Arts programs! They have been very busy these past couple months working on new performances and techniques.
The Panther Creek Dance Company is performing their first show of the year: The Panther Creek Winter Dance Concert on December 7th and 8th, 2023. They have another dance showcase later in March 2023. Panther Creek’s dance program consists of a year-long advanced honors course, where students are able to learn the basics of dance, where there is also a performance company for more advanced dancers. Cameron Joslyn; the captain of the dance company and classes said “But we do go on field trips to colleges.
They have like days of dance that high schoolers can kind of come to so we kind of get a look at what dance will be like in college. And I know dance team also did the parades, the Christmas parades” when asked about some of the activities the Dance classes participate in. Cameron also revealed the reason she originally began dancing was because of how expressive it is; “I used to do gymnastics, and then I switched over to dance because it was a more calm, creative, expressive art form.”.
In the first semester, The PC band program contains 3 different classes to choose from; Concert Band, Marching Band, as well as Jazz Band. Last week, they had their annual Christmas concert in the Panther Creek auditorium where each class was able to perform a couple songs.
On Saturday November 4, 2023, our marching band won first place at the Cary Band Day competition!
The Panther Creek Thespian Society and Theater programs performs a play in the fall and musical in the spring, this year they are performing Into The Woods by James Lapine in the Spring and Fools by Neil Simon in the Fall. On January 6th, inducted members of the honors society may compete in the International Thespian Excellence Awards (or “Thespys” for short) competition. Some students in the theater department spend their spare time doing more productions outside of school. A great example of this is Kara Troy, a Junior here at PC. “I just finished a run of Something Rotten last weekend. I was in the ensemble, and Alex Fluker was so good! I also did Heathers over the summer and I played Veronica.” The President of the Thespian Society, Alex Fluker said “I’m actually going to the regional Thespys competition at Durham School of the Arts on January 6th, and there is a whole group of people going! I am really excited for that.”
