Homecoming: Light Up the Night Edition

Last week on Saturday, October 14, 2023, Panther Creek High School hosted their first school dance of the school year; Homecoming. 76% of our students polled reported that they were excited for homecoming.

Spirit Week

This year, Panther Creek’s student council decided on a fun spirit week, including a day to celebrate Catamount pride, pajama day, “anything but a backpack” day, as well as a Barbie day. The spirit themes decided on are pretty popular. In an interview with Amy Vasilescu and Aditya Bhakuni, they reported that they would definitely dress up for pajama day, and possibly participate in some of the other days as well. Harshini Keshav, the secretary of the Sophomore class, stated “I still have to look into what the spirit week themes are but I’ll definitely dress up!”.

Football Game and Pep Rally

On Friday, we had our pep rally, which had performances from the dance team, marching band, as well as the cheerleading team. As always, the students competed in multiple competitions and races, including the teachers as well. 60% of students polled reported that they would go to the Homecoming football game against the Green Level Gators. The Catamounts won the game, 24-19. The theme of the football game was pink out, which was convenient because the spirit day was “Barbie day”, which encouraged students to wear the color pink to show school spirit! At the football game, the Panther Creek Catatones performed the national anthem, and the Panther Creek Marching band and color guard also performed at halftime.

Theme

70% of students polled reported that they are attending the homecoming dance this year. Believe it or not, that is an improvement from last year, where less than half of students polled said that they attended the dance. In an interview with Nadia Jaison, a junior, she reported “The theme is really cool. I mean, I’m not really sure what to expect at the homecoming. Maybe they’ll be like glow sticks or something.”, which was a similar reaction to others about the theme. Since the theme of the Homecoming dance is “Light up the night” this year, some students had some ideas for next year. Aditya Bhakuni suggested “Maybe we could do a haunted theme with Halloween coming up.”, and Amy Vasilescu noted “My old middle school did “Starry night” for their dance theme, that would be cool.”

At the Homecoming dance, student council members handed out food, water, and other assorted drinks to our student body. Around the commons, there were multiple photo-shoot stations, giving students opportunities to have a memento of the Homecoming dance. PCNN hopes you all had a great homecoming!
