Imagine you’re a Panther Creek student with a test upcoming in your third period. And as such is required you left studying to the last minute. What’s your plan? Where do you go? Well lucky for you we’ve decided to break down the creek’s most well known study spots, and a couple niche ones too.
Our main rankings come down to five important categories: noise (measured in decibels), busyness, nearest available source of help, availability, and anything else miscellaneous.
For reference 60db is equivalent to general chatter and conversation. Sound doubles every 10 decibels.
First are the most apparent and simple options, and they rank about the same in everything except noise. The locker bay and cafeteria are most apparent, ranking at 52 and 69 respectively. The difficulty to find a seat is about the same and becomes significantly easier assuming you don’t bring along friends. The main problem unfortunately comes down to they both lack the sources of help you might be looking for from a smart lunch, like speaking to your teacher. But assuming you can study on your own, these stops rank as just alright.
We then follow with one of the quietest options on the list. The 35 and 3600 bathroom weigh in at an astonishing 47 decibels, while also being generally open and available. Unfortunately for it, however, is when the miscellaneous category scoring kicks in, dealing with the obvious fact that it is, in fact, the bathroom. A conglomerate of vape smoke and fecal matter make it a suboptimal spot to “lock in.”
The library, field, and courtyard all score brilliantly in the availability, busyness, and noise. Unfortunately, they’re all just a little bit too boring.
This list also wouldn’t be worthwhile without surprise options, like the little known bench that sits behind mod 5. While it is first come first serve, there is absolutely nobody who comes first. It’s the quietest on the list at an astonishing 43 decibels, but has subpar mod 5 level wifi.
We have one final option that comes as a subsection of the cafeteria. The counselor’s corner is generally empty and provides tables and seating with enough space for you and all of your work, lunch, etc. It also ranks highest in noise at 73 decibels consistently.
So all in all what do we recommend? Well it’s complicated. If you want to study with friends, the locker bays, specifically 3500 (least busy) is the place to be. But if you want to go off on your own, the bench by mod five might just be the place. Quiet, spacious, and with a lovely view of the tennis courts, it just might be the perfect place.
