Track and Field State Champion
On Saturday February 15th, the Catamounts headed to Winston-Salem to the JDL Fast Track for the NCHSAA 4A indoor state championship meet.
Both the men’s and women’s team took home first place, the first time that’s ever been done in school history.
Senior Casper Serrano says, “we’ve never done it before. It’s the first in PC history, so it definitely feels like we did something special”. Seniors like Serrano were able to finish out their senior year with a huge win.
When asked, “how does it feel to win states?”, senior Ian Harrison said, “It feels amazing because that was something that I know both the boys and girls side needed. We were close and we knew it was going to be a close battle and that was something we were looking towards as a goal this whole season and the past couple months”.
Ian Harrison has been a top athlete for not only the track & field team, but also represents the Panther Creek athletics department as a whole. A few months ago, Ian Harrison attended signing day and signed his National Letter of Intent for North Carolina State University.
When asked, “what has prepared her states?”, Morgan Smalls said, “The countless hours, training with my coaches and teammates like Ethan and Caleb, and getting in the pit”.
Senior Morgan Smalls has had her fair share of athletic accomplishments. She has won numerous awards in the past 3 years of participating for the Panther Creek track team and just recently won “Most Outstanding Athlete” at the state championship. Out of the four events she competed in, she took home first place in three of them. She committed to run track for the University of Southern California.
