From May 3rd – May 6th of 2014, the DECA International Career Development Conference was held in Atlanta, Georgia. This conference is a competition attended by 16,000 students and advisors from DECA chapters around the world where the students showcase their new ideas and plans for potential businesses. By being a part of the DECA program, students are able to go to ICDC and are able to gain valuable skills as well as recognition from colleges that can prove valuable to being accepted into college. Here at Panther Creek we had a very strong turn-out at the conference and even had a number of students who managed to gain high ranks in their programs.

One of the teams of students at ICDC was made up of seniors Abinav Sehgal and Briana Fox and sophomore Huntre Fox. Their event was the financial literacy promotion chapter project. They created a program designed to teach high school graduates with disabilities how to manage their money and make a working budget. For their program they ranked in the top sixteen internationally.

Two students were recognized for their extensive knowledge in the professional selling and general marketing areas of the competition. Senior Sam Anderson scored in the top 10% of test scores on an exam that tested the students’ knowledge on what it would take to set up a program that sells tablets to schools and how those tablets can be used in the schools. The other student was senior Shannon Zhan who performed so well on her test regarding advertising campaigns that she received a medal. In addition to this honor Shannon also serves as the president of the Panther Creek DECA chapter.

Senior Henrik Lindvall took part in the entrepreneurship: growing your business competition in which he presented a five year growth and promotional plan for a business that hosts online gaming servers. For his project he also ranked in the top sixteen internationally.

In the fashion institute of design and marketing program a team of three students, Sophomore Jack Storment, senior Katerina Strange, and senior Chelsea Koehler, were awarded 3rd place internationally for their video about fashion trends.

All of these students put a good deal of time into their projects and fully deserve the honors awarded to them all of them will remember the time they spent in  DECA and what they learned from it.
