Three Shouts for Mr. Catamount!
Instead of Homecoming King, Panther Creek holds Mr. Catamount in which ten (in this year’s case nine) senior students compete in several rounds – individual talent, group talent and several questionnaire rounds to prove they deserve the title. The winner is picked by local judges who determine the best contestant based on various factors like style, skill, and audience appeal; two announcers were present as well to help move the show along. In addition to the announcers, the ladies of the homecoming court helped the boys conduct all sorts of entertainment for the audience and judges to prove their worth.
On Friday, March 6th, the show began with the traditional question, “why do you want to be Mr. Catamount?” Answers varied from hilarious improvisation to heart warming sentimentality. Next was the introduction portion in which each contestant would walk across the stage flaunting their stuff as a description about them was read by one of the announcers. Soon after came the individual talent portion where contestants would showcase their entertaining skills. Following the talent portion was an intermission that was ended with a hilariously exciting dance featuring all of the contestants. Finally, the top three contestants were revealed by the judges to be tested one more time in a mystery round which determined who would be granted the 2015 Mr. Catamount crown.
The competition was tough and nobody was holding back. Talents varied from dancing to acted out synchronized swimming. Each moment was unpredictable – leaving the audience on the edge of their seats from start to finish. The night was one all contestants will reminisce on for the rest of their lives. Mr. Catamount is an event for not only seniors, but also for families and underclassmen to look forward to all year as well.
