What makes a good teacher?
Many students think that a teacher needs to be honest and care for their students. Wilson Flynt (9), says that, “Being honest to your students” is the best quality of teacher. He also said that he would point out Ms. O’Connor as a teacher that shows this trait. Connor Coole (12) he responded, by saying, “Someone who is hard working and cares about the students, almost thinking of them as if they were their children.” That goes to show that students just want a teacher who they know they can trust and looks out for their best interests. Other students like Will Lindsay (10) want to be comfortable around their teacher. He said “I like teachers like Mr. Arul because I don’t have to hesitate asking him a question, I know he’s going to give me an answer I can understand.” Jake Sidiqui (9) also had similar feelings about how a good teacher should be, saying, “All teachers should be personable with their students and make the student feel like they are talking to a friend.”
The overall consensus is students want a teacher they know they can depend on, trust, and feel comfortable with. Instead of being a teacher-student relationship, students seem to like having their teacher be more like a fellow peer.
