Do Panther Creek Students Get Enough Sleep?
Recent studies show that adolescents need 8 to 10 hours of sleep each night to function properly. The REM stage of sleep helps students remember information better and perform better on tests, quizzes, and homework. Sleep also is shown to help people manage stress better, eat better, have better skin, and overall better health and a better lifestyle. Lack of sleep leads to irritability, an increase in stress, and makes people more susceptible to sickness. Teenagers have hectic schedules, with work, extracurricular schedules, homework, and other events. Most teenagers do not get enough sleep; especially having to wake up in the morning to get ready for school or finish homework not finished the night before. According to our polls, the large majority of respondents, being high school students in the wake county public school system, do not feel like they get enough sleep. Unlike most of the interviewees in the survey conducted, the majority said we should start school at a later time.
