Catamounts Roar into College

With college just around the corner for Panther Creek seniors, finding out which college they will go to next fall is all dependent on their letters of acceptance. It is a nerve-racking wait for most students as the notification deadlines for the applications they submitted are not until the months of December, January, and even March. As the acceptance letters trickle in throughout the cold winter months, students become thrilled when they find out that they got into their dream colleges. While this whole process was taking its course, PCNN decided to jump in the action and find out which colleges made the cut and who has received acceptance letters from their targeted schools.

We interviewed nine determined seniors who had a diverse array of colleges that they hope to attend. While UNCW, NC State, UNC Chapel Hill, and Charlotte were some of the common targets, schools such as Stanford, Duke, and Cape Fear happened to make the list as well.

Michael Matsinger, Shea Vore, Aleigh Hockaday, and Jillian Magner were four seniors that had their eyes on one college, and one college only: Cape Fear Community College. When they were interviewed about which colleges they applied to, they all uniformly responded with “Cape Fear.”

While some people only had one college on their mind, others had quite a few options to choose from. Kevin Kang had UNC Charlotte, UNC Wilmington, NC State and UNC Chapel Hill on his mind, with hopes to go to UNC Chapel Hill. Kelly Geiger had similar schools, such as NC State, UNC Wilmington, and Appalachian State, with NC State as her top choice. Another hopeful student who hopes to attend NC State was Victor Minin, who also applied to Stanford. One of the last people interviewed was Harrison Chen, who applied to some of the most prestigious colleges in the nation, such as: Duke, Carnegie Mellon, and Princeton. He has hopes to attend Duke in the fall.

The last student interviewed was Asad Yusuf, who didn’t give us much information on his future. We posed the question, “Which colleges did you apply to?” and he responded, “That’s not the right question, where didn’t I apply to. The ethic of our culture is predicated on the existence of a transcending morality. Do you understand? So, where I applied to, it doesn’t matter!” We weren’t quite sure what to take from this, but we did what we needed to do.

Seek the truth, and report it.

The poll below shows a twitter poll we made of where students believe they will be going to college: Community College, In State, or Out of State.
