The winter holidays and festivities, paired with the long awaited time off from school, left the student body in anticipation for Winter Break this year. In fact, students expressed much interest in the holidays, with a door decorating contest, where people were encouraged to use individuality as a group to decorate the door of a teacher.
Holidays always find a way of bringing a certain air of anticipation and warmth to an area, schools are surprisingly no exception. Much of this excitement comes from things like tradition and costumes. Senior, Kayden Wilkins expressed great joy for his celebrations of Christmas and Three Wiseman’s Day, which is a primarily Hispanic holiday taking place on January 6th, representing the three wise men of the Bible who bestowed gifts upon Christ. Traditionally, people leave their shoes by the doors to be filled with gifts.
Junior Marie Wagener primarily celebrates Christmas, and in her home country of Germany they often come together at churches to perform and watch nativity plays.
The holidays have a way of showing us a plethora of different cultures and beliefs, not just in the things we celebrate and believe in, but also in our traditions; traditions that are curated by family and loved ones, and the specific things that make a holiday all the more special.
Senior Maddie Regan expressed her joy for holiday traditions while speaking on the things her family specifically likes to do. “Usually, whilst celebrating Christmas, my family gets together and does a big holiday breakfast, and while celebrating Hanukkah I make sure to light their candles on their menorahs.”
No matter what holiday you celebrate, or what religion you practice, or what you believe in, the holidays should always be enjoyed. Whether it is a set tradition, or just something your family makes up every year, these are times to be with those whom you love and cherish, something that Panther Creek’s student body seems to wholeheartedly agree with.
