At Panther Creek High, prom is supposed to be one of the most exciting nights of the year. Yet unfortunately the hype around the night has shifted towards the shocking ticket prices.
For a lot of students, the price just doesn’t seem realistic. When asked if the prices seemed reasonable, senior Kelsey Smith voiced that, “No, it’s just not worth it”.
Junior Gianna Simoes didn’t even need to think about her answer as she replied with a strong “No!”, upon being asked the same question.
It’s simple math. There are just too many other costs that students have to worry about. A beautiful outfit, a limo with friends, and several other things make the tickets that much more of an inconvenience.
When students were asked what they thought a fair price would be, most said somewhere between $25 and $50. Senior Emma Morris suggested a sensible “40”.
To be fair, throwing a prom isn’t cheap. There’s a lot that goes into it: renting and decorating a space, hiring the DJ, and even providing food accommodations. But the bottom line is this: if students feel like they can’t even afford to go, what’s the point? Prom is supposed to be a fun, unforgettable night. But if the price keeps going up, more and more students might be remembering it for the wrong reasons, possibly even skipping it altogether.
Prom is a night to remember; it shouldn’t come with a price tag you want to forget.
