A collective sigh of relief was heard round the school at the conclusion of Panther Creek’s Homecoming dance, not from the teachers, but rather Student Council. Panther Creek’s most well known organization ironically has the least amount of information out and about with what they really do. However, we’ve gotten a peak behind the curtain to share what fuels school spirit at a North Carolina top 5 school.
Most recently, students at the creek participated in our Spirit Week leading up to the Homecoming football game and dance. We spoke to Student Council President Jean-Luis Gracia about his experience managing the council as well as many other members of the board.
Homecoming week was split into two subdivisions, with one team running the dance, and the latter spirit week. Jean-Luis describes his role in management as “operational” making sure both groups were on track with the goals they set. “The spirit week group led the marketing of daily activities, trivia, raffle tickets and selection, as well as many other subdivisions. Everything going on in preparation had student council representatives working around the clock to execute the yearly tradition. When asked about the execution of Spirit Week, Jean-Luis Gracia said, “This last week in homecoming festivities we have achieved so much more than previous years especially with Spirit Week.”
Panther Creek’s secondary Student Council group found themselves planning the Homecoming Dance, showing off their creativity and commitment to proper planning and development. Between lights, music, and action, the week leading up to the dance was called a “stress fest” by many, but ultimately paying off to bring us a night of memories to last a lifetime. The unwavering commitment to school spirit from Student Council members left us with an unforgettable Homecoming night, making sure every student was able to dance like nobody was watching.
