The PCHS theater department has yet again presented us with another creative play. This year we all got the pleasure of seeing our peers perform in Clue, a riveting story revolving around a murder mystery that takes place in a mansion in the 1950’s. The play had its opening night on the 21st of November, bringing in a big crowd of supporting friends, families, and peers to see the performance.
Productions like these take a lot of work and care to be able to go smoothly. The hard work and determination doesn’t just come from the cast, but also the talented crew. No matter the task, the crew made certain that the performance ran smoothly from night to night, giving us their all and really bringing the show to life. A crew member, Alyson Humston, who did a considerable amount of stage makeup and hair, says “everyone has worked so hard on it, and it honestly turned out so much better than I thought it was when we were starting off”, showing her pride for the successful production.
Many of the show’s leads hold just as much passion. Ty Sherard, portraying Wadsworth, the butler, shared “The most rewarding part of working on this play was seeing people who are in the audience… laugh at our jokes and all come together and take what’s just written on paper and bring it to life”. It is invigorating to witness just how much these people, who we may see every day in a class or even just walking in the hallways, can put so much devotion into the thought of a character that they are excited to embody them. The same student said that he had to memorize over 300 lines with a smile on his face, and did just that in his performances.
They worked tirelessly, constantly making adjustments to sets, scenes, and costumes to ensure everything worked harmoniously. Making the set was no easy feat either; in order to portray the vision more accurately, students painstakingly painted lines and borders that better define the set, enhancing the overall experience for the audience and actors.
This only goes to show that our prestigious theater department works hard, not only in its several efforts in entering in competitions and even going to nationals, but also grabbing the attention of their captivated audience.
