Many students wait all year for Friday Night Lights. At these football games, people can see their friends, and classmates they haven’t seen in a long time, and meet new people! It’s arguably Panther Creek’s most beloved social event. But now that football season is over, we asked PCHS students how they socialize now.

PCHS Student Kamryn Spencer said that at football games, “all my friends were there, so it was good to talk to people. Even if I didn’t have friends there, I still knew people.” Now that the season is officially over, we asked her what she does now to socialize, to which she said soccer club and school soccer.

Like Spencer, many other PCHS students play sports or join clubs to spend time with their peers. According to a PCNN poll, 63% of PCHS students use clubs to socialize.

Many students use one-half of lunch to socialize at club meetings, but with SMART lunch back, they can also see their friends who aren’t in their extracurriculars during the other half of lunch. Another student, Oliva Tucker, stated that without sporting events, “I still find ways through basketball (her sport), and with SMART lunch back, I get to talk to everyone.”

Other ways that students socialize is during class, getting together outside of school, and through social media! Still, many students believe PCHS should plan more events for students to get together.

Spencer said that PCHS should create more social events “because they’re fun and a good way to hang out with friends.”

Other students like Tucker specifically requested that our school plans smaller events. She said, “the only time they do social events is with holidays,” so planning other events throughout the year would be a good change.

Spencer added that when our school does plan events, our school becomes closer and more inclusive “because the students get to talk to each other. I enjoyed the football games a lot and especially the homecoming dance because I got to bond with my friends.

At the end of the day, many PCHS students love football games the most to socialize. Still, they also love going to club meetings, spending time with friends during lunch, and communicating through social media to have fun. Many students still want more social events to be planned by PCHS, specifically smaller ones spread throughout the school year. Nonetheless, students have found their way around studying, extracurriculars, and, of course, socializing!
