At Panther Creek you’ll find loads of sports teams and an endless amount of clubs available to join. One of Panther Creek’s specialties is the dance team and their winter season is upon us. 

The Panther Creek dance team specializes in being the halftime performance at home basketball games as well as performing during pep rallies and putting on their own dance concerts. 

Unfortunately the dance team takes much criticism from peers as not being a sport and just being the “sideline entertainment” until the “real sport” comes back.  

Little do people know that these girls have spent years building up strength and stamina to be able to endure 2 ½ to 3 minutes of all-out dancing. They have increased their flexibility enough to be able to lift their legs over their heads without even thinking about it. They can do turns and pirouettes on grass and gym floors without skipping a beat and their self-confidence is through the roof from performing in front of numerous crowds. 

The girls practice every Monday and Wednesday after school until 4:30, putting in hard work and going all out to prepare for upcoming games. After the holiday break the girls will perform about 6-7 times on the PC court.

Dance team captains Logan Auslander and Lucy Litvak are expecting an amazing turnout this season. When asked what dance team means to her, Logan Auslander says, “It means a lot to me because I always wanted to be apart of something that’s supportive and encouraging. It brought my confidence up and makes me feel uplifted everytime we practice and perform”. 

As students come to watch the basketball games, they are also looking forward to an exciting halftime show. Catamount Chaos student section leader Emma McKnight says, “I think it’s really cool that they get to perform because it’s kind of like a halftime show like how we have band at halftime during football. It’s cool to see the different sports and activities that we have at school”. Senior on the dance team, Ava Sturzebecher says, “I love performing at halftime because everyone is always cheering and excited to see us dance”.

Panther Creek dance company is hosting their annual dance concert next Thursday, December 12th and next Friday, December 13th at 7:00pm in the auditorium. Tickets will be $7.00 at the door or $5.00 in advance the week of the concert during lunch.
