The easiest things to see from PCHS senior Jonathan Streeter’s social media pages at a glance are that he’s really into football, and he’s really good at it. If you were to look him up having no idea who he was, you would come away knowing that he’s set himself up for a solid career in the sport through years and years of practice and experience, and no shortage of talent.

Jonathan’s been playing football for twelve years. Clearly, this was a passion he developed young, and there’s no denying that it seems to be working out for him so far. He’s been on the Panther Creek team every year he’s been in high school, and he’s played wide receiver and defensive back. With COVID-19 taking 2020 by storm, there was a chance that he- or anyone else- wouldn’t be able to play for PCHS this year, but things are looking up, even if they’re uncertain. “At the moment there is a season, but there has been no talk on how it is going to look based on fans. We also get only seven games and no playoffs,” he explains.

Even if it’s disappointing that this year’s football season will be diminished, there’s still something very exciting going on for Jonathan. He seized an opportunity to do what many serious high school athletes dream of doing: signing on to a college team. Currently set to play as a defensive back for Appalachian State University in Boone, NC, Jonathan says of his decision: “What really drew my attention to App State was the coaching staff. They loved me. The way they play also fits my playing style.”

App State wasn’t the only school interested in Jonathan’s talent. He received numerous offers from various universities who wanted him on their team. Although he ultimately decided to play and study in Boone, the decision could have gone a few other ways. “It actually came down to five schools. One day I happened to have a meeting with my position coach at App State and in a matter of five minutes, he taught me five things. And right then, I said “this is the coach I want to be coached by.” This coach had NFL experience and all our meeting did was back his resume up.”

Committing to App State isn’t the only decision Jonathan has to come to this year. He told HighSchoolOT that he was considering graduating early, which would mean missing his senior football season. “It feels good to know I worked hard to get to a place where I can make big choices,” he says of his dilemma. He hasn’t yet announced whether or not he plans to stick around and to finish out both semesters of his last year at PCHS.

Of course, Jonathan also has a life other than on the field, just like any other senior. “I would refer to my life as chill outside of football. I just have fun, relax, play games, watch movies, pretty much a normal teenage life.” His favorite movies are the ones in the Fast and Furious series.

While turning football into a career seems to be Jonathan’s goal at the moment, there’s more to what he wants to do with his life than that. “I am shooting to make football my professional career. At the same time, after I finish my NFL career I would like to go into the real estate world,” he says. “I grew to enjoy real estate when I read books about it in 4th grade.”

If things go his way, Jonathan will be involved with his fair share of contracts throughout his life, spanning from the ones he signs that bind him to a football team and the ones he signs with his clients as a realtor. But before all of that, in the here, in the now, he’s still a high school student, and it’s great to have him on the PCNN staff for the final year before he sprints toward an awesome career!

(Bonus fun fact: His favorite high school classes have been World History and Personal Finance.)
